BROKEN SPOKE OPENS @ 4PM TUES. - SAT
Hard to believe it’s been 15 years since Mr. White decided to open up the dancehall on a Tuesday night and allow me to start “Two Steppin’ Tuesdays”. I had no idea at the time that it would become such a consistent and important part of my life and career. There were many special moments @brokenspokeaustintx even before I started this amazing residency. e.x. The night I moved to Austin (Dec ‘06) me and some friends went there to watch @thedalewatson and I talked with Dale about just moving here to play music and that I had just gotten out of the military. To my surprise he told me to come up and sing a song. So the first official place I ever sang in Austin was technically there at The Spoke (thanks Dale!) Also, one night I stopped off there in April of ‘09 to do a little networking and there was a beautiful woman on stage singing. I got her number that night and now, almost 16 years later, she is my wife and we have two beautiful little girls together. The ability to have a weekly gig at such an iconic place has done more than just help me pay my bills, it’s given me the ability to keep my band busy, make a tremendous amount of fans and many, many memories, both good and some I can’t mention. I remember at one point Annetta telling us she never had any Budweiser left (back in my heavy bud drinking days) to sell the rest of the week because me and the band drank it all. Every album I’ve made since 2010 was hashed out and tested at The Broken Spoke on Tuesdays. I’d write the songs and then show them to the band where, at sound check they would learn it and I would chisel away at it until we had something working. Even the covers we would work up were done there on Tuesdays. Then we would see how the crowd reacted. It has been a proving ground for the band and my songs, how cool is that? “Two Steppin’ Tuesdays” means more to me than you can imagine and I want to thank the White family for making me part of The Broken Spoke family and I want to say thanks to everyone who has come out on a Tuesday, even if it was just once. Here’s to 15 more See y'all March 4th!
